“Where you stay, I will stay.”

Brittany and Bobby’s at home engagement session is an easy favourite. Not only was it a pleasure to spend time in their beautiful home but it was amazing to photograph them where they love to spend time. I appreciate when my clients think outside the box for their engagement photos, choosing to forgo tradition in favour of something that perfectly represents them. Engagement sessions are about so much more than just pretty photos, they’re about having fun doing something or being somewhere you love.

I originally met Brittany in the spring when we collaborated on the Farmer’s Market shoot featured on Real Weddings with Briar of Epic Events; I was thrilled when she reached out to chat about her wedding next year at Quail’s Gate Winery in Kelowna. Brittany and Bobby welcomed me into their home, where I was finally able to meet their adorable puppy Darcie, who I’d already heard so much about. After much anticipation they were finally able to bring her home the week prior, so we were excited to include her in the session. My heart nearly melted when I met her, she’s basically the cutest thing you’ve ever seen. Their at home engagement session included hanging out sipping coffee (with Bailey’s, of course) and the sweetest puppy snuggles.

Brittany and Bobby’s session is split into two posts, you can see the other half of their session at golden hour here!

“Go where you feel most alive.”

My connection to the Okanagan runs deep; when my mom and grandparents immigrated from England to Canada they moved around BC countless times before finally putting down roots in the Okanagan – in what is now West Kelowna. Growing up, every summer involved a lengthy trip to the Okanagan so some of my favourite memories are from time spent there. Fast forward a few years to when I met my husband Pat, the tradition of summer trips to the Okanagan continued, made better only by the addition of visiting wineries. In recent years, our visits have slowed as we’ve travelled abroad but still love any opportunity to visit whenever we can.

Our recent trip with friends was nothing short of amazing; finding new favourite wineries and revisiting old staples. We visited nearly two dozen wineries on our trip; days were spent sipping wine on beautiful vine covered patios, marvelling at sweeping vineyard and lake views and winding down poolside at the end of a long, tough day of wine tasting lol. If you love wine as much as we do, a few of my favourites in the South Okanagan include LaStella Winery, Stoneboat Vineyards, Hester Creek Estate Winery and Black Hills Estate Winery. Along the Naramata Bench, Poplar Grove Winery, Hillside Winery, La Frenz Winery and Tightrope Winery are easy favourites, however it’s nearly impossible to find a winery that’s less than amazing anywhere in the Okanagan. Looking through these photos brings a smile to my face, remembering new memories and old from this amazing place.

In the spring I had the pleasure of working alongside Briar from Epic Events on this beautiful farmers market chic styled shoot in Vancouver. When Briar reached out to me sharing her vision for the shoot, it didn’t take long for me to realize it would be gorgeous and no detail was too small to be overlooked. Inspired by fresh BC food and local markets, stepping into the space you were instantly greeted with pops of colour, fresh produce, herbs and bread. The ceremony had dramatic draping from the high ceilings and a fully decorated rustic bar, dessert table and market fresh vignette (complete with the cutest retro bike) completed the overall look. From the stunning florals and overflowing greenery designed by Nicola Adam Floral to the harvest table displaying a delicious antipasto platter by Culinary Capers, this fresh take on a rustic yet modern theme was beautiful. A few of my favourites from the shoot were the three incredible cakes, each prettier than the last, and the stunning tablescape complete with demi-baguettes wrapped in muslin and tied with cards for each place setting. We’re happy to see this unique styled shoot featured on Real Weddings.
